Question 1

What services do window cleaners offer?

Accepted Answer

Window cleaners can offer work such as regular exterior window cleaning, one-off exterior window cleaning, pure-water pole window cleaning, traditional window cleaning where suitable, internal window cleaning where offered, window-frame and sill cleaning, french-door and patio-door glass cleaning, and conservatory glass cleaning. Services vary by business, so check the individual profile before making a request.

Question 2

When should I hire a window cleaner?

Accepted Answer

A window cleaner can help when windows are visibly dirty or streaked, you want a regular local window cleaning round, a property needs tidying before sale, letting or guests, and conservatory or skylight glass needs cleaning. Check individual profiles to make sure the business takes on the type of work you need.

Question 3

What information should I include when asking for a quote?

Accepted Answer

Describe the problem or work you want done, add clear photos where they can be taken safely, give useful measurements or product details where relevant, and include the property location, access and any deadline. Mention previous repairs, reports or known defects if they could affect the job.

Question 4

What should I check before hiring a window cleaner?

Accepted Answer

Before hiring, check the business has suitable experience and that the quote or price is clear. For this type of work, ask about whether upper windows are included, water-fed pole or traditional method, frames, sills and doors included, and regular round availability. Also make sure the window cleaner covers your area and takes on the type of job you need.

Question 5

Are there qualifications, registrations or insurance I should check?

Accepted Answer

There is no single qualification for ordinary window cleaning. Ask about relevant experience, public liability insurance and the access method for high or difficult windows.

Question 6

What can affect the cost of window cleaning work?

Accepted Answer

The price can be affected by number of windows, property height, access, first clean vs regular clean, conservatories or skylights, and frequency. Ask for a written quote that explains what is included and how extra work would be agreed.

Question 7

How long can window cleaning work take?

Accepted Answer

How long the work takes depends on number of windows, property height, access, and first clean vs regular clean. A small, straightforward job can be much quicker than a larger or more complex one, so ask when the work can start and how long it is expected to take once the scope is clear.

Question 8

What should I do before the work starts?

Accepted Answer

Before the work starts, close windows and provide access to the outside of the property, move fragile pots or furniture away from working areas where practical, and tell the cleaner about locked gates, conservatories, rooflights or unusual access. Follow any job-specific instructions the business gives you before arrival.

Question 9

When might another trade or specialist also be needed?

Accepted Answer

Depending on the job, you may also need cleaners, gutter cleaning & repairs, pressure washing & exterior cleaning, and window & door fitters. Ask the business you contact what it will handle itself and whether another trade is needed.
